Ashlyns Farm is a small petting zoo located on the outskirts of Harlow. We stumbled upon it, and love it. There is a rather large farm trail walk, with loads of opportunities to pet various animals.
We have visited Ashlyns farm many times, as it’s great fun. Also as you might have noticed if you visit this site often then you know we all love animals. It’s well priced and also has a soft place located on site, there is plenty for children of all ages. It’s such a great petting zoo, you can see others be have been to here. You can get a farm and soft play entry for £9 for one adult and one child.
Ashlyns Farm Location
Ashlyns farm is closer to North Weald. We would recommend driving if you’re able as the bus routes in the area are not very reliable. There is also ample parking of which is free.
Travelling by public transport? Then the best bet would be to get the 420A bus which will stop by the round about. This bus route connects Epping Tube Station (central line) to Harlow town center. If coming from Harlow Town station (main line). Then you’ll need to get a bus to Harlow bus station first, usually the number 10 bus.
Things to do at Ashlyns Farm
While at Ashlyns farm there are plenty of activities to keep children of all ages occupied. There are many outdoor play areas and climbing places dotted around the farm. Allowing play breaks while you enjoy the short walk around the farm.
You might want to also bring some pound coins as there are a few pay to ride on cars within Ashlyns. Little ones will love them, and want to ride them again and again, well this is the case with Ben.
Now onto the animals, there are plenty to see here. They range from cattle, donkeys and chickens to fish, reptiles and small pets. With all the animals we have found them to be super friendly, and love petting.
What do animals love more than petting? We that’s easy food! Ashlyns at the main entrance sell animal feed (50p), that will see all the animals queuing to see you. Children will love feeding the animals. With this in mind, there are hand cleaning locations all around the site.
Ashlyns also has a fantastic looking indoor soft play area. It seems to have both a baby/toddler area, as well as a larger area for older children. We wasn’t able to review this as Ben had fallen asleep.
Eating while at Ashlyns
The farm has a shop, which sells fantastic local produce. Attached to the shop is a small cafe, that serves a variety of meals and drinks.
Our choice was to have a picnic, as there is a nice out door seated area near the entrance of the farm. The picnic area has plenty of seating, and even some small tables and chairs (which are so cute). This outdoor area is completely fenced off, with a large children’s play area located to one side. That means you can let the little ones run around to their hearts content.
There is also a small tea room style bar located within the soft play area. They sell hot and cold drinks, while offering limited selection of food. When we looked, it seemed to be only bacon/sausage sandwiches or tea cakes.
We loved Ashlyns, it was a great way to spend an afternoon. If the weather is great then it’s a fantastic option. We love all the animals, they are well cared for and are friendly.
We will be going back again soon, as we want to take Ben to the soft play as he loves throwing him self around and ball pits. Another reason we’re going back is that the shop located on site has loads of goodies for us grown ups.
